Cedar Crest College Death and Dying Discussion

PARAGRAPH ONE – 6 points

It’s time to have a respectful discussion on death and dying. While this is an uncomfortable topic for many of us, it is part of the cycle of life. Based on the Lecture #13 video and your own outside resource research, share with the class your answers to the following questions:

(1) Physician-assisted suicide is legal in a few states and in a few countries. Do you believe that more states should make this legal? Why or why not? (2 pts)

(2) How would you define a “good death?” Why? (2 pts)

(3) Imagine that you are training others to work with people who are terminally ill or in grief. Advise your group about how to work most effectively with those populations. (2 pts)

To get full points, you will need to integrate concepts you learned from the lecture and other outside materials (cite your resources). You need to cite a minimum of one outside resource. Show that you can think critically on the topic by integrating your own thoughts, analysis, or experiences. While this is not a debate, you can express your opinions and experiences respectively and without promoting defensive replies.

Share with the class a brief reflection on what you learned from the session and how it relates to growth, change, and development. You don’t need to list takeaways unless you want to. Otherwise, a brief reflection will do just fine.
